Hellknight Signifier

I was asked to paint a miniature for a friend's player character. It is a Hellknight Signifier from the Pathfinder miniature line by Reaper Miniatures.

Her skirt was a real good opportunity to work on my layering. I think I did well on that account. The armor was about getting more experience with non metallic metal. Not as good as it could have been, but pleased enough.

All my player characters

I felt inspired to take a picture of all my player characters together. See if you can spot the oldest one.

Assyra Serefina

What I have here is my latest player character, the ifrit Assyra Serefina. She is actually the miniature for the Chelaxian Firebinder. I am quite pleased with how she turned out.

The picture is slightly darker then she is for real. I added some grey freehand to the yellow cloak because she worships Calistria, whose colors are yellow and black.

And as a bonus here is her flaming sphere! A quick bones model paint.

Kerdak Bonefist

Here is Kerdak Bonefist, a.k.a. the Hurricane King! Pirate lord of the Shackles and soon to (potentially) be in the company of my PCs. Good stuff.

Painting him was a challenge. I took a lot more time then usual, and I think it shows. I liked working on the blending and highlighting for long times. I also spend a lot of time on the non-metallic metal sword. I am pleased with it. It is no masterpiece, but it is only my second try at it afterall.

Beware players! For the Hurricane King cometh!

New photograph background

I have (yet again) upgraded my photo shoot facilities. This time I added a textured cloth in the hopes of being able to focus the pictures better on the actual models. This is the results so far! Enjoying myself here.

Kassata Lewynn

This is Kassata Lewynn, the faction leader of the Free Captains in Serpent's Skull, and soon to be doubled as Sandara Quinn in my Skull and Shackles campaign.

Pathfinder mini's are always a joy to paint. They are so detailed and give a lot of satisfaction once completed. In this case I worked with a muted color palette for once, and it really seems to be working. Unfortunately the picture isn't one of my best.

Any tips to improve on the shooting of her picture are welcome!

Next up: A purple worm.

Other paintjobs from 2012

It seems 2012 is already almost over. This is a shame, because I have been painting like crazy. I aim to keep it up so that the shelf is a lot emptier come Reaper kickstarter dead drop.

I have spotlighted some of my recent paintjobs since I started this blog, but of course I painted a lot more this year. Here are the best of them (and the ones with the best pictures).

(Swampy) Zombies from Reaper Miniatures

Rust monsters from Otherworld Miniatures

I did paint a lot more then just this, mainly in the Warhammer department, but I do not have proper pictures of most of them. I only got my lightbox near the end of the year and anything not in the lightbox is no longer something I am happy with

I learned a lot from painting all these miniatures this year. One thing I know now is that I could spend days on a miniature or hours. I general I will not spend days on a miniature, but hours. I just don't have the time to paint up to a 'museum' quality spec. I also want to use the miniatures, so there is another reason. I will thus tend to paint up to a level of quality I am comfortable with doing within at max 8 or so hours.

I also learned about water effects (see the huge spider), still love drybrushing (see the spirits) and actually blended some things (see the rust monsters).

This was a good year, let's have another.

*Waits patiently for Reaper-day to arrive*

D0: Hollow's Last Hope

This is a special occasion. As some might know I am a huge Pathfinder collector. I am specific though. I do not collect the pre-made mini's, the gamemastery line, the novels or the comics. I do collect the core rules, campaign setting, adventure path, modules, player's guide and player's companion books.

I've been at this for a while and I have most of the out of print books that are no longer available through paizo.com. I still need to purchase some of the still in print items though. I lack two out of print books though:
  • Module D0: Hollow's Last Hope - This was a special promotional module handed out for free at (I believe) a GameCon. Whatever they had left afterwards they put on their website to be sold. Needless to say I did not collect back then and I missed it.
  • Pathfinder #1: Burnt Offerings (Alternate cover) - This one is even rarer. Also a special handout from GenCon 2007 this time. This item was also sold on paizo.com for a short while and has seriously sold out. I do have the alternate cover from a later adventure path issue, but not this one. This is the one I will probably never find for a good price.
So why this quick blog? I have found Module D0 for a reasonable price and it has already been shipped my way. Please, gods of mail, do not lose this package and deliver it to me ... in 3-6 weeks.

Regardless I am very happy! One down, one to go.

Sajan, the iconic monk

I have recently finished Sajan, iconic monk from Reaper's Pathfindeer line. With Sajan here I tried to go for more then tabletop quality. I must say it takes absolutely ages and is doing my pile of unpainted minis no good at all.

Regardless I am quite pleased with how he turned out.

Welcome to the Grotto

So! I finally made the move from livejournal to another blogging platform. In addition I am focusing on my gaming. The collecting, the painting and the gaming itself. I shall try to post some logs of campaigns I run, highlights, but mainly pictures of models or dungeonpieces.

So here goes!

I have bought in on the Reaper kickstarter last september and am getting nearly everything! Woohoo! Together with a few friends who also ordered a few things through me, I should be getting a pretty big box of miniatures. ... Which is also the problem! I need to get my unpainted lead (and plastics) painted up as soon as possible. Before the storm!

So here are the first few. This is 'Sasha' in my Serpent's Skull pathfinder campaign. Or as she is better known, Shenshen from Reaper's Pathfinder line.

I don't usually blend  much, so this mini has been a test of sorts.
